Screening of Alexander Dovzhenko’s film Earth (1930)
Live performance of specially composed soundtack by R.Seiliog
Saturday18 March, 8.15pm
A silent poetic masterpiece depicting the Ukrainian peasantry’s journey into Stalin’s age of collectivization. We have commissioned the highly innovative electronic musician R.Seiliog (Robin Edwards) to write and perform a brand new electronic score live for this timeless humanist materpiece.
This event is part of our ‘PSYLENCE 2017’ film weekend which aims to celebrate cinema’s unique ability to fuse music and image together to create magic.
Over three days, Pontio’s cinema will offer live music co-existing with silent art cinema (DATBLYGU and ANDY WARHOL), a brand new electronic soundtrack to a classic silent epic (EARTH and R.SEILIOG), a special guest - author JON SAVAGE in conversation, as well as introducing a screening of cult classic PERFORMANCE and a free educational session looking at what’s involved in creating concert movies.
Taking silent cinema as a starting point, PSYLENCE aims to adapt and utilize the existing Pontio cinema space to offer brand new experiences for audiences.
